Overall, the CAT’08 paper was of a moderate difficulty level. The paper was more balanced than previous years, primarily because of more choices in the English section. There have been an increase in the total number of questions – from 75 to 90, with English section accounting for 40 questions (an increase of 15 from last year) and Quant and DI having 25 questions each.
The Quant section was less difficult than last two years, though not in an absolute sense.
DI, however, proved to be a tougher nut to crack this time around.
The English section, with more choices, was easier to handle.

I think you are predicting English cutoff on higher side … the choices between options were close. I think cutoff will be around 40.
The overall Cut off should be less than 125
DI will have cut off of about 28
ENGLISH cut off will be around 55!
maths will have around 32-34
though quant was easier than last year, but there were questions where mistakes could easily have been committed and english though easy, the cut-off predicted is quite high….i think the sectional cut-off for EU/RC will go upto 40 ……

Language was a pure sitter. I will score 100. I think the section was designed to increase the overall cut off only.

I believe Quants was easy and yes DI to be tough, but due to my slow speed i attempted around 10 quests in Quants, 8-10 in DI and 20 in English. I’m relying on my accuracy in first two sections but not sure about EU. Least expecting an IIM call but not too bad percentile. Well lets see.. Best of luck everybody! :)

this is the most easiest paper in the history of CAT. qaunt was too easy to handle, though i was somewhat confused in attempting vocub. questions.
Although both verbal n DI were not quite difficult but the increased number of verbal and tuff set of quant question turned out to be a deadly combination, i would not be surprised if most number of aspirants loose out of the top B school race bcz thy were caught on the wrong footing by the higher numb of va question. pesronally speaking i was too keen on solving quant and was so scared of it that i completely neglected DI n just attempted 7 questions. CAT(2008) paper was overall good , specially the DI section. It was composed of good logics, less calculation.
I found english as a bit difficult because of so close option.
So far the quant is concerned it was average and cut off for quant section may go high…

I think quant is comparable to 2007 but tougher than 2006. I am expecting the cut offs to be anywhere between 32-36.
DI also was definitely tougher than 2006 and 2007. Expected cutoffs 30-34.
And English is comparatively easier than last 2 years, the expected cut off would be 45 (considering there were 40 questions). And for those with good VA, 45 should be easy.
For a single call, I think 120 should be a good enough score.
This is the third time i am writing cat and scored 99%ile in 2006 and 07. (Didnt clear English both the times)

My guess is that QA would have a cut-off of around 40.Most of the people i talked to attempted an average of 10-11. I flt that DI was tough.Cut-off should be around 30.VA should have a cut off around 50.Overall 120 should be good

I personally think since number of questions in VA/RC increased, people might spend more time on it, and so should reduce the cutoffs in Quant and DI/LR in comparison to last year’s paper.

Who the hell is this IITian who is boasting about his IITian instincts….yaar aisi harkat to log 1st yr me karte hain tu final yr me bhi boasting kar raha hai, I am also frm IIT and cleared the same JEE but i didnt find QA to be tht easy or sitter, for average junta it will be difficult to score 25+ so please guage cut off accordingly, DI was a bit tricky but the trick was selection of doable sets, English , well u can never comment or b sure untill u chk out solutions (confusing options, every coaching will come out with different answers :))

Thanks Praveen bhai for providing a respite to all my “Suicidal Thoughts” which emerged after calculating my English scores. Well, this was my first attempt at CAT with absolutely zero preparation. Though I know I can surely bell the CAT with a proper study for 6 months.

This year’s CAT Paper was comparitively easy in comparision to previous ones. It was not of real CAT standard. We can except very high cut off. DI was very easy and English too but a bit lengthy to go through all the questions and complete the RCs. Quant was comparitively tough.
Lets see, its all depend on the accuracy…………
Ohh the paper was very easy, but then again I am a dunce. And i did what could be expected of a dunce.

I think the paper is of the same standard as that of 2007 as a whole. DI was much tougher ,Eng was easy, Some might argue that QA was tougher in 07 but actually any student taking CAT seriously knows that those are sitters if you go for the options. So I think a total score of around 115 would be sufficient for 1 call and 135+ for more that 5 calls. what do you think?
I have got 42 in Quants,38 in DI and 67/72(CL/Times) in English.My DI percentile is 92.5/95.5(CL/Times).Which percentile is the more realistic one…..If CL is correct then i will miss some calls??????
