Hi,
I gave CAT 09 on 2nd of Dec. I did not face any technical problem but i have serious concerns regarding the the quality of CAT paper. I had a question picked up straight from one of the previous papers (copy paste!!) and it had one data simply missing. WRONG QUESTION! They did'nt even copy it properly. Its lacks a data without which it cannot be solved. If this is the standard they have come to, the cat hype we have created might come to an end soon.

Sir I admire your respone, on this issue you are absolutely right but I am not fully agrre with it.
I am also student of CL. I had given the CAT on 30th. And found the system may have faults somewhere,
still I think concept of CBT is good.
During my test when I reached to the mid of RC my server get down and it is my weakness that once my concentration breaks I have to start it again. When system resumed I start the RC again and solved it.

I didn’t get disturbed at that time but I get disturbed when I came back to home. I had four mails from CL giving feedbacks of day1,2. It was also mentioned that students found the questions are repeating from previous CAT so please go through previous papers. I’m not angry with CL but angry with students who are declaring it. My many friends had taken the dates after me with the intention to get feedback.
On their asking I simply said them –
1. I have no idea whether questions were repeating or not. 2. I have not counted how many questions I’ve attempted. 3. The level of CAT is standard as it was. That’s it.
It is our fault that we are helping our competitors by letting them know about the CAT format. It will happen that some of our friends who have not prepared well will get more percentile then us. Why just because of these feedbacks! IIMs have taken care abt it by not declaring the score. With the intelligence we have to be smart enough. There are many employees who are facing the server problems everyday. We are not alone who are facing the problems lik these. I really appreciate the IIMs attempt.

While standing at a traffic signal I’ve seen many who are breaking the rules and those fools insisting me that rules are made to break. I never blamed the syatem because I know wat I’ve to do.

Here everyone is talking about car and racing. Guys “Race car nahi use chalanewala jitata hai.” And now race is over so please stop blaming and focus for the remaining exams.
 " All the best everyone . . . . "

I would like to point out another issue which is not mentioned in the letter above. I appeared for my CAT on 6th December. All my friends who appeared for the test during the earlier days found quant "very" easy, with a lot of sitters. I, on the other hand did not find any "sitter". Rather quant is said to be relatively tough even by other students who appeared in the same slot as mine. It seems like due to the complaints of students of quant questions being repeated, the level of difficulty of different sections has been increased. This is grossly unfair. This issue of varying degree of toughness for various sections on various slots also needs to be addressed. One way is to compute a different percentile for different time slots.

The software also auto-signed out twice for the whole center during my test. I was solving a DI set and I had marked one answer (out of the two), and when the test started again, i did the second question and moved on. It was towards the end of the test that I realized that the 1st question, which I had already marked, was not marked and I had to sift through my rough work to find the solution for that question on my rough sheets. Had I not noticed this error, I would have missed one question, which is a lot considering the kind of competition. Now this is for me, it could have been more than 1 question for someone else and I luckily detected the error, someone else might have overlooked considering the time pressure. All these issues need to be addressed.

I had appeared for CAT in COEP, Pune. I did not face any problems as such. I think the infrastructure at COEP, Pune was good enough.
But I am really disappointed with the "END" button on "Review" screen. Even though we were warned of the mal-funtion of this button, my mouse cursor was going there out of habit. Either this screen should not have this button or there should be 2 buttons - "End Test" and "End Review".
Overall I would say that the questions were similar to what have appeared in SNAP and other non-CAT (except XAT) exams in the past. The standard of questions was diluted too much. Direct questions in English and Maths. My DI is weak so cannot comment on the standard of questions in there, but I heard one person say that DI was "Super Easy" :(

My question to the CAT conducting authorities:
I know of 2 reputed exams - GMAT and GRE (may be someone can help me with the names of other exams as well), which informed of them going online 5 years in advance. In those 5 years, I have read, that a lot of mock drills were executed, students were made aware of how the online paper would be etc. All necessary steps were taken to ensure smooth execution of the exams.
Why in case of CAT then such measures were not taken? Why the decision was taken just less than 2 years in advance and forced upon the students? How are they going to ensure proper selection in light of the fact that many questions have repeated in different slots on the same day and that the students in second slot were aware of many questions asked in the first slot?

Hi,

Whatsoever was the reason, but one thing is for sure, it’s completely a debacle IIM should seriously look into it and get a foolproof solution. How can someone who makes you understand Management and Six Sigma theory be failed like this? Are we fool to consider IIM to be best at Management or they consider us to be completely on mercy of them.

This was very disappointing. Online Test is not a very big deal. CL made us appear in Online Mock, and everything went well/ we did a lods of Mocks and never felt problem like this.

Solution is nowhere, if there is re-test, it would hamper the mind set of alot of student who performed very well, but would be good to other.

Would be very interesting to see a solution to this by IIMs.

Thank you very much for your personal attention on this matter. I am also one of the affected candidates of CAT'09. I had taken the test on 1st Dec in the 10 am slot. Out of the mentioned six problems, I had faced three. Immediately after my test, I made a complaint to the center head. They issued me a letter to re-appear for the test. But I am still waiting for the response from IIM/CAT/Prometric. I had also lodged a complaint at ``http://www.prometric.com/IIM-CAT/contactus'' but I think they people have turned a deaf ear toward us.
Also, the candidate care number is going busy all 24 hours. Please help me out of this. I think I had made a big mistake to rely on IIMs/CAT, who is not capable of the same.
