MICA announces admission to Post Graduate in Advertising & PR

Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad in collaboration with Hughesnet Global Education has announced Post Graduate Certificate Program in Advertising and Public Relations. MBA students with work-experience jump to 89% at IIM-L

One of the most significant trends sweeping the Indian management education domain is the significant importance being attached to prior work-experience of MBA candidates.

Overwhelming percentage of students at IIMs and other top-schools are candidates with some prior work experience.

In the fresh data shared by IIM-L with MBAUniverse.com, a whopping 89% of candidates admitted to the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) have some prior work experience. ICICI Prudential Life joins hands with IIM-Calcutta

ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Tuesday announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) to start a new course focussing on the insurance sector. The course, named as Executive Program in Management and Insurance (EPMI), is targeted at the fresh graduates.

“With the boom in the Indian insurance industry over the last few years, there is an increasing need for skilled professionals in the sector. This course will develop a pool of high quality insurance talent for managerial roles,” said Judhajit Das, human resources chief of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.

It would be a non-residential, 10-month full-time programme where students would be taught 21 courses and it would be followed by internship. Continue reading

IIMs may net Rs. 22 cr from sale of entrance test forms this year

As organizations that effectively teach people how to make and manage huge sums of money, it is only apt that the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) eat their own dog food.

The seven IIMs (in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore and Shillong) could together make a profit of up to Rs22 crore this year from merely selling application forms, up from Rs18 crore last year. The increase is on account of a Rs200 hike in the price of the forms.

IIM-A may scrap GD for PG courses this year also

The Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has plans to do away with Group Discussion (GD) for the second consecutive year for admissions to the post-graduate programmes this year. The group discussion is held after the results of the Common Admission Test (CAT).

IIM-A authorities believe that changing the admission selection format will help them in selecting right candidates who are more spontaneous in their responses and also provide more insights into them. Continue reading

Drama tips in B-schools

Theatre was limited to the dramatics cell of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, till the B-school introduced drama and role-play in its curriculum to prepare its students for real-life situations.

The institute organised a day-long workshop by theatre group Nandikar for the students of the managing innovation course. Over 70 students attended the compulsory workshop that stressed on communication and negotiation skills and convivial learning. Continue reading

Former president Kalam to teach at IIM-Ahmedabad

Former Indian president Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has accepted the invitation of the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM) to teach at the prestigious institution.

Come September, India’s ‘Missile Man’, will begin delivering lectures for 70 students.

Dr Kalam, who had earlier worked as a scientist at the Ahmedabad project of the Indian Space Research Organisation, will conduct 20 sessions of lectures and discussions on ‘Globalising resurgent India’ through innovative transformation from September 13 to November 27.

According to sources at IIM, Dr Kalam will also speak on the crisis in leadership and how India is creating followers but not quality leaders to take the country in the right direction.
